WARNING!! THIS JOURNAL WILL HAVE SPOILERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!

I watched Kimi no na wa(your name) because so many people keep saying it's a great movie and deserved an oscar, and I am kinda confused..... What made this amazing to merit an Oscar? Why did it beat Spirited Away??

Kimi no na wa was a story that I didn't expect, I thought it was going to be just a generic love story about 2 characters meeting and trying to figure out each others names, then they meet again in the future. But nope, instead they pull you off guard with a body switch and a dark twist that gives you a little suspense at the end whether they survived or not, and the love developing from body switching. Sure it put me off guard as well, but it didn't feel great when I finished it. Why? Because I already seen anime who already did these genres and pulled this off better than this movie. I watched Steins Gate, read Metamo Kiss, and watched The Girl Who Leaped Through Time, and those made me feel satisfied. But many people don't even know about those, and people even said they dropped the Steins Gate series because it was slow and confusing in the beginning. So does that mean maybe this movie was overrated? What makes it better than Spirited Away?? Because I know there's more body switching romance anime out there that makes this movie nothing new. But with Spirited Away you have beautiful animation, life learning lessions, friendship, mystery, and overall a feeling of magic that many series and movies don't do, making it a unique movie.

Kimi no na wa did have great animation that appealed to me, and the concept sounded good, but they didn't develop the characters and it made me wonder for the rest of the movie "why did they fall in love? What was the quality they liked? Was it only because Taki found out she died or because they only switched bodies and never actually met each other long enough to get to know one another?".At certain parts the animation and art style reminded me of Hayao Miyazaki's style. So overall this movie had some flaws that deterred me from rating it at least at an 8/10, I instead gave it a 7/10, which is more than fair. And believe me, I watched a lot of anime to know enough of how anime plays out, so I am giving an honest thought on it rather that trying to shit on a movie so many people seem to like.

Did any of my watchers watch it? What do you think? Was it overrated or not?
